EVENT 2025 WHL Draft Final Evaluation
Strengths: Size and Physicality
Development Opportunities: Puck control
Owen stands a bit on his own in this draft as the punishing defender who can close out space, box out smaller opponents, and really put his stamp on games as a menacing presence. He already possesses the power and skating stride to be able to match paces with quicker opponents too. He is still working on adjusting laterally to better his defensive positioning against agile players who change directions on him and at times his physical play can lose him slight inside positioning too. Just when you want to pigeon hole him as a purely defensive projection too, he bursts up the ice, joins the play along the backside, and shoots heavy wrist shots in flow. The argument for taking him higher up in this draft is that he has the ability to make shutdown hockey and simple plays look easy while adding size and snarl to the backend.
