I was really impressed with Hintenberger’s size and mobility combination. He moves around the ice quite well in his 6’3 frame. Shayden can turn, pivot, and shift direction without losing any momentum, maintaining power through all of his cuts, enabling him to cover tons of ice. Whether it was on retrievals, shutting down rushes, or walking the line, it all revolved around his footwork, as he could get around the ice well. In past views of Hill, some of his defence teammates have tended to catch my eye more, but in this game Shayden really showed me that he’s a player I need to pay a bit more attention to.

When it came to high leverage situations and the coaches needed to roll out someone to rely on, Hintenberger was almost always the first defender over the boards. His overall game and proficiency as a two way player helped solidify the back end with his defensive prowess and he also showed that he was capable of providing a shot in the arm with his offensive abilities as well. He’s not flashy but engaged, limits mistakes with the puck and recovers to mask and redeem himself for any errors. His stick is timely defensively and there’s a bit of edge to his game. He is good at timing and calculating when to involve himself in the play and was a good second player shot and playmaking threat as a result. Showed he could put the puck in the back of the net with a nice solo effort and a well placed shot off his back hand in a game against Mount.
