EVENT 2026 OHL Draft Final Evaluation
Projection: Top Six Forward
Tools: Playmaking, Puck Handling, Offensive Creativity
Development Opportunities: Physical Development, Lower Body Strength
After missing the first half of the year, Samek has been one of the most impressive skaters in the back half of the season. The raw confidence and handling with the puck, the creativity to make plays, and just being an offensive weapon has been so apparent down the stretch of the year and has really shot him up my board. The puck skills are high-end, showing an almost endless arsenal of moves to beat defenders in tight, create space in small areas, and find ways to get pucks to the interior. What I appreciate most is that the skill always seems purposeful, using his hands to navigate around pressure and create real chances rather than just dazzling for the sake of it. First and foremost, I find Jack leans on to make a quick move and then dish, creating tons as a playmaker, but there is goalscoring upside, especially with his ability to deke netminders out from in tight.
Especially with missing some time, he'll need to continue to add strength, explosiveness, and get more physically mature. It may take a year before he fully hits his stride at the OHL level, but he’s definitely a player worth betting on and one of the higher upside swings you can make outside the top group of players.

Game Information 2026 OHL Cup vs. Ottawa Jr. 67s
Samek was one of the primary play drivers for the Majors throughout this one. While most viewings of Jack I come away with tons of notes to rave about his offensive performance, in this game, I felt he showed more of a two-way impact. He consistently won pucks in his defensive zone and swiftly turned them into zone exits and clean transitions were a routine theme, making him one of their leaders as a puck transporter up and down the ice. Of course, there were the flashes of flexing his ability to handle pucks on a string and maneuver his way to the scoring areas for chances, but I wanted to note an increased showing as a disruptor in puck pursuit. Samek has been consistently impressing me game in and game out since returning around the halfway mark, and he’s easily one of the highest risers as the season nears a close.

Game Information 2026 GTHL Top Prospects Game
On Team Red beyond Arjun I felt all of the forwards more or less played around the same level, but Samek was the one I wanted to highlight. I thought he showed his offensive creativity and desire to make plays when he got his moments. Jack was confident with the puck on his stick, playing through sticks and contact with clever moves, extending plays and operating with control. His impact was mainly as a passer, spotting open teammates in the scoring areas, creating a handful of chances for his linemates. It’s been a good first month back in action for the Majors forward, making up for lost time in two key events.

Game Information Draft Day Showcase
Similar to what I noted at WSI, Samek impressed with his passing game in these views. Within the offensive zone, he was constantly scanning his options, looking for that crafty pass he could stitch through seams and thread a puck into the scoring areas. He always seemed to have that combination of on-puck confidence and deception to evade oncoming pressure, create space for himself, and then swiftly spot a gap and make something happen. Time and time again, Samek was setting up chances all through his passing game, having quite the showing over the Draft Day Showcase.

Game Information WSI: Everest vs. Draft Day Black
Jack had a few flashes of creativity that caught my eye. When the puck was on his stick, you could see the wheels turning, he was scanning his options, and could spot the right passing lane to advance the play. He used delays and tactical handling to draw defenders out of position, and then smartly slid pucks under sticks and through tight gaps to the interior of the defence. It was only a few nice little plays from Jack, but I could see the flashes of that crafty playmaking type that I usually am drawn to.

Samek was one of the standout players in the tournament, showcasing a ton of skill and consistently playing with energy, buzzing around the ice in every game. His quick changes of direction and ability to attack from different angles, paired with fast hands, made him nearly automatic when it came to clean zone entries and getting into dangerous areas. He scored a critical goal in the finals to get his team on the board, creeping off a net-front battle into the high slot to receive a pass from the boards and burying a one-timer. A play like this in a tight-checking, exhausting game demonstrated Samek’s impressive hockey sense and ability to find space in crucial moments.
