The first thing that jumps out to me when I watch Memphis Wilcox is his defensive awareness and ability to quickly perceive and deal with potential threats by getting himself in the right position. He moves around the ice well and is able to close down opposing players effectively and make timely interventions with his stick and neutralize attacks through his smart reads. These defensive traits lend some effectiveness to his attacking play in transition as he’s able to get a jump start up the ice while the attackers are left in the dust a bit. He turns away from pressure well and is able to find good passing and shooting lanes to generate chances from his stick. He shows some good vision from the point but also finds his way down low in the attacking zone at times and combines with forwards in quick passing movements to create space and work towards the goal. He’s an intelligent defender who does a good job anticipating plays and reacting to them to help cut out offense and launch a counter attack, plenty to like here.
