Over the course of the first few months of the season I thought Rory was easily the most improved player in this class. His adjustment from playing M15 in Cape Breton to the MPHL with RNS took effort, but that was something he seemed entirely willing to commit to. By the mid-way point in the season Rory was as effective as just about any player in the Riverhawks lineup at playing with attention to detail to make his transition efforts successful, and carrying that momentum into the offensive zone. He plays with a high degree of composure under pressure in the offensive and defensive zones, keeping his head up to see past his obstacles both physically and on the time scale. He anticipates the emergence of lanes and continues to move his feet in an effort to help develop them so that when the time is right he can execute a well positioned pass. Playing without the puck in the offensive zone he remains mobile and floats high in the zone so that he can efficiently move into position to defend, or just as efficiently move into position to strike. He makes good contact with pucks on short notice and has a high quality release with limited time to prepare himself. While he plays such a strong F2, I've also been pleased with his efforts on the boards, again showing attention to detail in how he retrieves and polishes pucks up for the cycle.
