Austin Robson
Regional Scout- Eastern Canada
Projection: Top Six Forward
Projectable Skills: Rush Attacking, Skating, Processing Ability
Development Opportunities: Strength
Olivier’s skill and intelligence propelled him up the Riverains lineup throughout the course of the season, ultimately centering the team’s first line and, in my opinion, being their most consistent and dangerous offensive threat throughout the playoffs. He’s a very dangerous attacker off the rush, using his high-end speed to push back defenders and create space up top for teammates. His quick processing ability allows him to execute plays at these speeds as well, giving him the ability to slip passes through traffic off the rush and play with pace. Olivier isn’t afraid to attack defenders head on thanks to his tantalizing one on one skill. He’s able to pull pucks through or around defenders thanks in large part to his stickhandling and skating combination, and also due to his ability to manipulate the body positioning of defenders.
If Olivier is to be successful at the QMJHL level, especially at the center position, he’ll need to continue to add strength in order to withstand punishment around the perimeter in the offensive zone. I suspect he’ll need another stint at the AAA level, but I suspect him to make the jump to junior hockey at some point next season.
