Boyer was able to showcase his high-end offensive ability effectively, making him one of the mor dangerous forwards to grace the ice at this year’s event. His elusiveness in the offensive zone allowed him to shake defenders around the perimeter with a series of cuts and spins, which made him quite difficult to contain. He was spotting his options quickly both off the rush and coming out of turns off the cycle, demonstrating the ability to execute cross-ice passes both on his forehand and backhand. Boyer was leveraging his skill level in one on one situations, combining his quick stickhandling and skating to get pucks around defenders or perform quick cuts to the inside and catch them flat-footed. As he did in the M18 Québec circuit, he was also putting a bunch of pucks on net from all sorts of angles, looking to catch goaltenders off guard or to cause havoc in the crease area. In the future I’d like to see him limit the amount of time he shoots from bad angles, but the rest of his game seemed much improved.

It was a bit of an inconsistent showing for Boyer, although the high-end skill was able to rear its head in particular moments. His one great play of the game came off a give-and-go with Lygitsakos, where he dished off then skated into space, got the puck back and placed a perfect shot over the goaltender’s shoulder. Boyer was using his edgework well in certain instances, using it to make quick cuts to the inside to get away from pressure and get a shot off.

Boyer was able to pull together one of the more impressive performances I’ve seen from him throughout the entire season. From the drop of the puck he was flashing his high-end skill set on nearly every shift, demonstrating evasiveness in small areas in the offensive zone and great vision to spot cross-ice passing options. He was delivering pucks to teammates on both his backhand and forehand, at times feathering passes over multiple sticks that landed perfectly on a blade. He showed dynamic one on one skill in the first period by attacking a defender head on, getting the puck through him before completing a backhand pass to a teammate who scored. I even saw a compete level that I hadn’t entirely seen from him, at least consistently, throughout the year. He was engaged in board battles and fighting for loose pucks along the perimeter, even coming out with the puck against larger opponents. He was managing the puck efficiently as well, often putting pucks into safe areas in the offensive zone with pressure draped all over him
