Projectable Skills - Size, Puck Control, Attacking off the rush Development Opportunities - Quicker and more deceptive shot release
I think Maddix has been one of the more quietly improved players from June through to December. When I saw him during the Prime Hockey Expo in the summer of 2021, Maddix was already showing his high end puck possession due to his ability to move with fluidity and power in all directions. That ability has improved and allows him to get creative on evasion techniques on the half-wall, and cut hard towards the middle of the ice to backhand saucer a lead pass to a streaking teammate. I’ve seen him make this play tons and it brings me joy each time. There are many elements of Maddix’s game which are projectable towards the WHL. He has the size, speed, and handles to be effective in any of the forward positions. His wrist shot power is really nice but the speed of his release can still improve. I want to see more quick strike attacking from him. His potential will be truly unlocked with more efficiency to finish off the high end chances he creates. He was not at the WHL Cup and I think that could cause him to slip into the sleeper category.

Prime Hockey Expo: Team Gold vs. Team Purple - July 22, 2021
Maddix McCagherty showed very good speed off the rush and zone entries. He could weave through lanes or fill lanes depending and seems to understand spacing and lanes well. He can be quite dynamic in his cuts to the middle of the ice while the puck is on his stick.

Rink Kelowna U15 vs. OHA Academy U15 - November 6, 2020
McCagherty was impressive in this one showing off an array of offensive skills finishing the game with 3 goals and 4 assists. The lack of comparable competition makes it a little hard to evaluate players in a game like this but no doubt McCagherty has elite playmaking and finishing ability. He showed nice touch around the net and strong separation speed with the puck. A gifted offensive player who needs some work in the defensive end but a very good prospect.
