Scoring 2 goals in his team’s victory, Richard Wonyeneh was the star of the game in my eyes, bringing the energy, skill, and finish needed to leave an impact at a high level. Out of all the players of greater size in this game Wonyeneh was the one who was best able to string together fluid movements, execute tight turns as if he were smaller, yet still remain strong on his feet and take over situations because of his physical tools. There were a few plays where in the neutral zone he simply barged through a crowd of opponents and came out the other side with possession of the puck, utilizing deft and delicate puck touches to read and react through crowds whilst boxing out opponents due to his size. One of his two goals was the 2-1 goal for BWC, drawing the puck from slightly behind his hip to his forefoot, wiring a shot past the goalie with great power and release. He had a few shots through crowds that clearly caught both defenders and the goalie by surprise, he could change his release point without sacrificing power or accuracy which made him a great shooting threat. He scored the 6-5 game winning as he came down the wing with speed, on a 2-on-1 centering the puck, the pass was blocked, following up on his pass he cradled the puck, went behind the net, and tucked it on the post with a quick wraparound chance beating both the goalie and defenders to the post. He felt undeniable at moments in this one, and this one of those plays, the aggressive on-puck work he did throughout to challenge lanes with both passes and direct cuts to the middle, it was only a matter of time before he broke through.
