Kirkwood’s inside-driven and physical style of play was one of the few things that seemed to be clicking offensively for his team. His puck protection ability below the hashmarks and his willingness to fight through checks allowed his line to establish a cycle game for a few shifts and spend extended amount of time in the other team’s zone. While possessing the puck along the perimeter, Kirkwood showcased some power and finesse to beat defenders off the wall and gain access to the middle of the ice, where he was able to spot his options quickly and deliver passes to dangerous areas for scoring chances. He scored a powerplay goal in the third period by driving the net with his stick down and tapping home a puck into the yawning cage.
