Projectable Skills: Two-way play, Hockey IQ, puck control Development Opportunities: Aggression, Size and Strength
Ashton is one of the best two-way centermen available in this year’s draft. Sometimes when watching a bigger game and just letting the eyes go to where they will, you can miss some of the things that Ashton is doing to support the team-style offense. He circles back, covers for defenders who rush in, support the play off the rush and in the corners, and hustles back to win one-on-one puck battles against bigger opponents through the neutral zone. Add to this a good snap to his wrist shot, power in his first three steps and fluid skating stride to build speed, and you find yourself with a very projectable forward. It is just my hunch, but I’d imagine that he is talked about as a coach's dream. He can switch his style or attack with more ferver if you give him the word.
