Director of Scouting
I think the type of defensive game he possesses is very projectable to the next levels. He moves from pivots to crossovers so quickly and effortlessly in his skating stride. His long skating strides and ability to react fast with lateral pulls make him a strong and patient outlet defender. It makes him extremely evasive under pressure. You’ll find him adjusting his passing angles and dissecting the flow of the game very methodically. It is very rare that you’ll find him truly pushing the gas pedal to the floor and powering his way through layers. He’s way more of a strong outlet passer and a joiner of backdoor lanes off the rush. His natural advantages come when he beats players into skating lanes and leverages his anticipation and adjustments in all zones. The reason he doesn’t take a lot of penalties too is that he’s very smart with his stick pokes and doesn’t get caught behind the play or reaching very often. He isn’t stepping up in the neutral zone to hammer players either. He just quietly strips you of the puck, extends his reach, and makes an outlet pass to a streaking winger before you can adjust.
