While it took some time for me to begin appreciating his strengths, by the end of a second viewing I came away quite happy with what he had shown. The sizable defenseman isn’t particularly flashy, but certainly has an above average offensive and transition interest. He can cover a ton of ice in a single stride, and while in some cases of direction changing he seems to be working out his balance, once he gets a stride or two in, he moves with good fluidity and awareness. He’s particularly versatile in that he selects the right moments to pass versus skate the puck, and in the fact that he does both quite well – making me reminisce about the strengths of Evan Nause. His ability to weave through traffic using subtle weight shifts with his head on a swivel means that he’s seldom locked into a decision, but rather mobile and adaptive. In the offensive zone I found he was eager to shoot the puck when it came to him, rather than seek other opportunities, like pulling off the wall to manipulate the defensive pressure. I’d like to see better examples of him edging out attackers in transition than what I found over the weekend, but by and large I think he has the requisite tools.

2023 Canada Winter Games Game Report: Team Nova Scotia (4) vs Team Newfoundland (0)
What a confident player. That confidence leads him to not hesitate on his proper habits of pulling pucks off the boards and walking the blueline into the middle and alternating between both heavy shot lanes and little pull passes back to his curling winger on the PP halfwall. He was active off the rush, used drop passes in the offensive zone, showed an understanding of spacing and timing on the backdoor, and almost finished off a great play. Even defensively you can tell he understands how to leverage his positioning to keep players on the outside and keep his composure under pressure. I think he has a lot of above average individual elements to his play and combined with that IQ and awareness it makes him an easy standout in a game like this.

Canada Games: Nova Scotia vs Ontario
Brady had a great sequence where he contained an incoming William Moore giving him little space to operate, and then used a quick poke check to free the puck from the skilled attacker. Peddle was effective as a quarterback on Team Nova Scotia’s powerplay as he confidently walked the blue line and reliably distributed the puck. He scored one of Nova Scotia’s goals off a bit of a flukey point shot that found the back of the net off some fortunate bounces.

Canada Games: Nova Scotia vs British Columbia
In addition to Conrad serving as a defensive anchor with supplemental offensive contributions in this game, I thought Brady Peddle gave his team the best chance of capitalizing on any miscues from their opponents. Unfortunately, those miscues were few and far between. Peddle made quick reads when recovering the puck and was often able to lead his forwards into open space when there was any available. As the pace of this game was almost entirely derived from BC’s possessions, Nova Scotia’s attempts to match pace resulted in their forwards playing outside of their normal boundaries, which was something Peddle seemed capable of reading and adapting to.

Little Caesars 15 vs BK Selects 15
Through the better part of this game I thought Peddle did a very good job aiding in zone entries by skating with the puck through early forecheckers. Being a bit evasive with weight shifts and his long reach, and then making well-timed passes to players in movement he was often effective. His paasses were not super long range, he just made them effective. This was a real highlight to his performance. He made some really effective give-and-go plays off the wall to make space for himself in a good shooting position and continued to use his reach really well to carry the puck into the offensive zone. He generally uses his size and strength pragmatically, and does not abuse his advantage by playing in low gear. Next to Shayne Gould I think he's been the second best defender on this team and his size certainly does make a difference. He recognized when there were gaps in the neutral zone and used good foot and stickwork to quickly exploit it and move the puck efficiently up ice. Considering his size, his ability to weave through traffic by shifting his weight was an impressive characteristic. Being able to read those types of opportunities was key for him. His defensive angles could be a bit ineffective, as could his pivot speed but it should be an area where he's able to dedicate some focus to improving.

USA HOCKEY 15S SHOWCASE GAME REPORT: BISHOP KEARNEY SELECTS VS PITTSBURGH PENGUINS ELITE
Despite standing strong above the rest of his peers physically, Brady Peddle’s game is diverse enough, so he doesn’t need to rely on his size to make an impact. On the powerplay he showed off some nice hands along with some craft edgework as he pivoted, stopped and started with fluidity and speed. He was able to shake off puck pursuing forwards atop the zone and opened up some space for his wingers along the half wall by drawing in defenders only to fire off a quick pass last second. He took a couple of shots on goal as well, demonstrating a heavy wrist shot that was kept low and generated rebound chances in front. He was also able to shutdown a 2-on-1 rush chance with his stick, diverting the puck carrier to the boards and shutting down the rush entirely. From time to time Peddle will use his size to punish opposition physically, laying huge hits to defend the blueline. Plays a similar game to his brother Tyler Peddle of the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

USA HOCKEY NTDP U15 SHOWCASE GAME REPORT: BISHOP KEARNEY SELECTS VS CHICAGO MISSION
Thanks to a large frame and an advanced skating ability, Brady Peddle was able to make an impact with and without the puck as a blueliner in this match. Powerful backward crossovers with the puck allowed him to reverse in the defensive end whilst simultaneously gather momentum which he would later use to pivot and progress up ice with the puck. When skating linearly he has good top-end speed and was even able to gain a few zone entries for the Selects. His long stick and this 4-way agility he possesses also made him very strong in defending the rush, keeping up with speedy forwards he simply edged them to the outside and landed accurate stick checks when he felt he had the puck carrier in a compromising position.
