Brendan Martin was one of the players who caught my eye the most on Neponset Valley, he was an intelligent defenseman who was able to cut out plays due to his ability to read the opposition. Martin saw the ice well and his positioning and reactions were well thought out, he adjusted well to the opposition’s attacks and was quick to swoop in and close down the puck. He was disciplined, patient, and showed a great ability to anticipate the moves that opposing puck carriers were going to make, all of which allowed him to effectively cut out plays and shut down counter attacking movements. He wasn’t the most physical player but he recognized when to step with his body and throw a hit to prevent play from progressing. He wasn’t too offensively minded but he was able to contribute by facilitating play and moving the puck around the zone smoothly and quickly. He stepped into space well in the offensive zone, looking to get into sensitive areas and providing passing outlets for his teammates as he looked to aid in breaking down the opposition.
