Brodie Ziemer is a talented forward, but his work ethic is really what allows him to constantly perform at the level he does. You would be hard pressed to watch any one of his games and find a player who worked harder than he did. Offensively he has great hands and uses his agility and shiftiness to make quick cuts and split defenders and make plays from his newfound open space. He has a quick first step and good speed and shows good offensive instincts off the puck by attacking open spaces and making himself an option. He works hard defensively and is aggressive on the forecheck. He is constantly buzzing around the ice looking for the puck and hoping to contribute in some capacity when he can. His ability to impact play on both sides of the puck makes him a constant threat and someone for other teams to be wary of.

First Round
Brodie Ziemer has among the best combinations of talent and work ethic in the 2006 class. His motor is relentless on both ends of the ice as he never stops moving his feet. It is worth noting that Ziemer converted from defense to forward just a couple years ago and has not missed a beat. The experience playing defense likely contributed to his strong two-way play and willingness to go to the dirty areas of the ice to score goals. What we really like about Ziemer is his propensity to routinely come up big in the biggest games. He will be joining a loaded Shattuck St. Mary's U14 team this season, which should further aid in his development.

2023 U18 FIVE NATIONS TOURNAMENT: USA VS. SWEDEN
The thing that stands out in spades with Ziemer is just how much purpose he moves with when off the puck. He circles in and out of play so that he’s able to offer outlet options to teammates while still having options to drive play forward after the reception. Brodie makes it easier for defenders to start transitions and has the skill needed to drive play up ice, such as his first assist where he secures a controlled DZ exit and a controlled OZ entry before cutting into the slot with some crafty stick handling and slipping a pass to a shooter in the high slot.

2023 U18 FIVE NATIONS TOURNAMENT: USA VS CZECHIA
Ziemer is really playing at his best here at the Five Nations. He’s out there finding moment after moment to impact the game, whether it’s from his own skill and creativity when attacking with the puck, or how well he’s able to move into smart positions to help the team chain quick plays together. From the second he steps off the bench, Ziemer can be found sprinting directly towards play and filling in whatever role the team demands of him in that moment. His timing around the net is a real strength, finishing off numerous great sequence created by the team.

2023 U18 FIVE NATIONS TOURNAMENT: USA VS CZECHIA
Ziemer capped off a magnificent tournament with another fantastic game. His timing and stick positioning around the goal mouth does wonders for the team, he scores from this position with such ease. Brodie may not have scored as much as some other players, but his usual habits of supporting linemates when away from the puck, executing quick passes with the puck and never breaking tempo with the rest of the team did wonders once again.

2022 World Under-17 Challenge Gold Medal Game: USA vs Canada Red
Brodie Ziemer had a great game against Canada Red here in the finals and it was good to see him get rewarded with a goal. He is such a talented player and his forechecking ability is one of the best on this team, and he caused many problems for the Canadian puck carriers in their own zone as he hounded them with relentless pressure. He closed down the opposition with such speed and was able to tie players up and get an active stick in there to dislodge the puck and come away with possession. His movement off the puck when the US had possession is something that makes him very effective and he is able to read the situation well and find himself in an optimal position to make himself a good option. Once he finds his openings he has such a strong shot that he instantly becomes a scoring threat and if he has a chance to get a clean one timer off, it is already too late. Ziemer was an energizer bunny and was able to spark life into his team and pick them up when Canada began to claw their way back into the game.

2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge: Canada Black vs. USA
The player whose performance was closest to rivaling Hagens as the most impactful player in this contest was Brodie Ziemer. From early on I noticed him getting involved in the offensive end as he was skating hard and doing his best to get on the puck to generate some chances. He had his head up and was making some great dishes to his teammates picking them out from across the ice with crisp and accurate passes. He played with a fire inside him, pursuing the puck from carrier to carrier as he craved the puck on his stick. He has a good shot and was ultimately rewarded through his hard efforts with a howitzer of a one timer from the high slot on a dish from Max Plante. Ziemer’s speed and tenacity are some of his best attributes and he played to those advantages as he out-worked much of the opposition and imposed himself with his excellent effort.

2022 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge: USA vs. Finland
The player who started scoring off at this event, Brodie Ziemer scored a terrific goal from the right faceoff circle while falling down. It was sensational that Ziemer maintained control of the puck and his body while gravity was doing what it always does, and it bodes well for Ziemer’s future as a goal scorer that conditions such as that do not appear to stop what he can do. Outside of the terrific goal, Ziemer was routinely connecting plays for his linemates throughout the game and clearly has a strong understanding of off-puck movement.

Shattuck-St Mary’s (5) vs. Bishop Kearney Selects (5)
Much like Brodie Ziemer, Kristian Epperson found himself on the puck frequently and looked to turn that into a bushel of goals as he attempted 17 shots, only six of which found their way to the target. Epperson potted a goal on the powerplay as he received a pass from the point and let go a one-timer that the goalie was slow to react to due to a screen in front. He carried the puck with purpose in this one and looked to set himself up for a shot whenever he could. He did a good job off the puck to find open space and put himself in positions to hurt the opposition if he received the puck. He won four out of five faceoffs in this one as well and one of those led to a goal on the powerplay, while he did not get an assist on it the goal would not have materialized without his faceoff win.

Shattuck-St Mary’s (5) vs. Bishop Kearney Selects (5)
The spotlight player for the home team, Brodie Ziemer, had himself a productive evening with four assists on his team’s five goals as he had a hand in lots of their offense. Ziemer attempted 21 shots in this one with nine of them reaching the target and he looked dangerous every time he was in possession of the puck. He put up good numbers in the faceoff circle and earned an assist off of an offensive zone faceoff win. He drove hard at the defense and attacked with pace forcing them to back off and give him space and time to plan his next move. He was able to stickhandle his way out of tight situations and fight off stick checks to maintain possession and keep the puck moving. His team needed him to perform well in a tough matchup like this and he did not disappoint.
