Callum Hughes is a talented forward with some good hands in tight and and pretty solid skating ability, he would be someone I would consider bumping into the second tier if he showed some more intensity in his play. His skill is there but he tends to not apply himself defensively and on offense he sort of tunes in and out, but when he is tuned in he can be a handful to deal with. He isn’t the fastest skater but he is smooth and can maneuver himself quite well to avoid hits and he has the size to take them in stride if he gets caught by one.

Cal Hughes was a pitbull on the forecheck all weekend as he constantly put high pressure on the defense and forced them to make quick decisions or risk turning the puck over. He was able to drive teams to turn the puck over a few times and he quickly was able to create a scoring opportunity for his teammates with a crisp pass into dangerous areas. He saw the ice well and was able to utilize that by allowing his playmaking ability to take control of the game and at times he was able to drift away from the defense and find pockets of space to make himself available to receive the puck. He skated well and was able to cause lots of problems for defenses with his tireless work ethic and his latent offensive ability.
