The success of Eli’s game is built around his playmaking abilities. He’s one of the best pure passers available in this draft which is a big reason why he finished fourth in total points in the CSSHL U15 Prep division this season. His best work comes when he’s in motion off the rush or circling the zone a bit to open up all sorts of new passing angles. He has that type of finesse where he can feather passes through seams or his opponents legs. He skates with shorter crossovers but keeps his speed and agility well as he’s attacking which allows him to use quick turns and curls both with and without the puck. Eli can certainly be an active forechecker but he isn’t delivering heavy body checks or using his body to impose himself. He’s way more about poking pucks loose or sweeping by as to not get into one-on-one physical battles with players bigger than him. As far as goal scoring is concerned, the closer you let him get the more dangerous he is. His approach isn’t about raw power; it's about accuracy and capitalizing on opportunity. If you give him a breakaway or let him get into the mid slot then you’re in trouble.

Barrett was one player I expected a whole lot more from as a source of secondary offence in this tournament, but he did show flashes of why he’s so highly regarded in this game. I really think it’s all about how he’s moving his feet. He can overthink things at times but when he’s attacking with pace, his natural instincts take over and he is a much more dangerous offensive package. He was battling hard along the wall today and while he has a size disadvantage, he shows a myriad of clever stick lifts and spins to gain positioning and the hands to pull the puck out of the pile.
