Lottin’s performance here showed me that he belongs in the upper echelon of prospects for the upcoming QMJHL draft. He was constantly demanding the puck and looking to spearhead the attack for Québec off the rush. He is consistently able to hide his intentions with the puck when he attacks, often opening up his body to make the defender think he wants to shoot before slipping a pass to a streaking teammate. He makes up for his lack of high-end straight-line speed by delaying off the rush and forcing the game to abide by his pace by slowing it down. His passing ability in transition was spot on throughout the tournament as well, showing a proclivity to get pucks through sticks and bodies in the neutral zone to a teammate in stride which allowed them to attack the line with speed. He was consistently able to create space for himself in the offensive zone thanks to his stickhandling, as he was able to maneuver around defenders in tight areas and gain access to the interior.

Fresh off an impressive playoff performance where he finished with 18 points in 15 games, Lottin was able to carry this play over into this year’s QMJHL Cup. He possesses some of the best hands in the draft, which he was using to operate in tight areas in the offensive and maneuver around defenders to gain access to dangerous areas of the ice. His vision is just another part of his offensive arsenal that allowed him to be so effective, spotting cross-ice options quickly and executing with precise passes. There were some shades of deception in his playmaking game as well, often looking off his intended target to open up a lane before threading it through. His shot, while not overpowering, is very accurate and gives Lottin the ability to pick corners from a distance.

Lottin’s deceptive playmaking approach stood out to me multiple times throughout this game, as he showed the ability to attack effectively in a multitude of ways. He consistently delays upon entry and showed in this game to be quite adept at performing slip passes around defenders to hit a teammate in stride. I liked how he was able to hide intentions in this game, often opening up into a shooting position before delivering a no-look pass to a teammate who was sometimes caught off guard. His intelligence really shone through off-puck in the offensive zone, where he was constantly getting lost in coverage and planting himself in a dangerous area to make himself a passing option for teammates.

Lottin’s skill level is an incredibly hard thing to contain for opposing defenders. He possessed some of the best hands in this game, using his stickhandling ability to operate and control the puck in tight areas in the offensive zone. His vision was equally impressive, demonstrating an ability to spot cross-ice options in all three zones and execute passes to teammates in space. He was quite deceptive in his approach as well, often opening up to his posture to sell shot to a defender before dishing off wide to a teammate on the backdoor. The highlight of the game came in the second period, when Lottin followed up on his initial shot that was blocked, fell down as he recovered the puck but was still able to fire a perfect shot over the goaltender’s shoulder from his knees.
