The ability at any moment within a game to leave his mark offensively shows just how impactful Finn Spehar can be for his team. In many viewings, a consistent theme to his game is explosiveness and speed, slipping into seams and lanes off-puck, catching passes, and firing pucks past the goaltender. If the lanes aren’t there, he does a good job keeping his feet moving around the perimeter, getting involved in the cycle, connecting on quick one-touch passes while pushing and pulling defenders away from their assignments. His speed and pace of play mixed with strong tenacity and disciplined stick checking makes him a great forechecking piece and penalty killer. I’ve seen multiple times from him quickly pressuring a puck carrier, getting a stick on a pass, and taking off up ice with a counterattack. He’s not the biggest player, but shows some good physical edge, competitiveness, and strength despite the lack of size. I like his shooting ability a lot, the quick snappy shot combined with some good accuracy, and decision-making regarding shot selection makes him a quality shooter, who makes the most out of his shots. As mentioned prior, the physical toolset he owns and ability to remain sturdy and on his feet allows him to penetrate the slot on occasion, coupled with the quick release, he has moments of being a great scoring threat from within the dots.

Spehar brought the offence for Sioux Falls, scoring both of their goals this game. They were polar opposite markers, and I think nicely showcased the totality of Spehar’s offensive instincts and his ability to beat you in multiple ways. His first goal was all determination as he stopped hard at the net and battled in the muck to bury a rebound. The second goal was more vintage Spehar as he carried speed in the offensive zone, darting around the exterior, before an assignment miscue by Pittsburgh opened a lane to the slot and he buried it with efficiency. He only needs an inch to make you pay and was Sioux Falls greatest threat all game.

Spehar was excellent in this game and his work as the maestro of the powerplay was especially noticeable. Slippery and cerebral, Spehar plays with his head up and the puck on a string. He’s in constant motion in the offensive zone, never static, always shifting into new pockets and creating fresh angles. That movement paired with his effortless puck handling sows confusion in defensive structures, drawing attention and opening lanes for teammates. He is such a shifty and creative puck carrier positioning his body in unique positions, using feints and speed changes to keep defenders guessing. A creative engine who tilts the ice when he's on it.
