Projectable Skills: High IQ, Quick hands and reaction time, Great skating stride, Room to Grow Development Opportunities: Physical Maturation, More physical defensively.
I really could see a scenario where the growth of Jack Kachkowski’s game just explodes with more physical maturation. Jack is a fluid skater who can adapt his stride with 10-2, quick cuts, and quality crossovers to build speed and change his attacking angle or his breakout angles. His ability to pull the puck the length of his reach combined with his quick twitch reaction time gives him the ability to spin from coverage, evade stick pressure, and move pucks to safer spots or with quality transition passes. Jack has a good slapshot and wrist shot which is well timed and can release from multiple balance points. His defensive style is generally to stay between the puck and the net to be more of a lane presence and try to separate with the stick poke/swipe. He certainly does pin players to the boards, battle for position net front, or make timely stick lifts in multiple circumstances. He’s a very smart player who could see all areas of his game grow with just a bit of time. I think he projects as an all-situation number one defender. He’s the kind of player you just have to be patient with and get rewarded in the future.

2023 Canada Winter Games Report: Team Alberta (3) vs Team Ontario (2)
I thought he really came alive on the PP for Team Alberta and used his fluid skating and strong frame to find separation spacing and shot lanes on the PP. It looks like his wrist shot release is building more power too. I think he stung a player as they blocked his shot. Either way, I thought his decision making throughout the game was solid, did not give up too much space, and was moving pucks laterally well.

2022 World Youth Championships: Pro Hockey Vision (2) vs West Can Prime (3)
Jack Kachowski was one of the top defensemen for West Can Prime. With great size, skill, and hockey IQ he was steady in all aspects of the game. His range of motion when handling the puck is exceptional, with a long stick and good agility he can dangle around defenders and activate himself from the offensive blueline to create chances. On the contrary, this long stick is of aid in the defensive end, knocking away passes and deflecting pucks out of play. When the opportunity called for it, Jack was willing to lay the body, separating player from puck and denying at zone entries and or cycle game along the wall with strong physical play. Scoring the game winning goal in the last minute of regulation on the powerplay, Kachowski took a wrist shot that bounced around in front and found its way into the back of the net giving West Can Prime a 3-2 lead late.

FORT SASKATCHEWAN RANGERS VS ST. ALBERT RAIDERS OCTOBER 22, 2020
Liked what we saw from Kashkowski although there wasn’t a real standout on either backend, not surprisingly in a 10-8 game. Liked his play along the blue line in the offensive end as he walked the line well and made good decisions on when to pinch to keep a puck in the zone. Thought his awareness was good getting in front of shots and jumping on loose pucks. Head always seemed to be up. Panicked with the puck a few times when he could have made a play.
