Scouting Report
EVALUATED 07/05/2023Joel Henderson
Director of Scouting
Projectable Skills: Well-Rounded attributes, Rush defense, Shot
Development Opportunities: Aggression
I think Jacob is one of the most well-rounded defensemen available in the draft. That is both the most positive compliment and the curious potentially negative. All of his elements should push him up layers to be effective. He’s a strong skater who shows balance, power, fluidity, and has strong posture to build momentum well and defend rushes by adapting to players early. He will finish a body check in the corner, choose strong shot lanes on net, delay and use his handles to drag pucks to make better passing angles, and is a strong capable D partner for most anyone. I think when I’m watching him, I’m more so waiting for one element or another to scream to me from the rafters. I think his shot, aggression, reach, stride, and hockey IQ make him an effective player on a consistent basis and I’d love for him to develop more swagger to dictate tempo more often. He projects as a very capable top-4 WHL Dman to me.
