Projection: Top-6 forward
Projectable Skills: Stickhandling, Hockey IQ
Development Opportunities: Physical growth, Changing pace
Jaggar found success this season by out-thinking defenders from the defensive zone and springing the rush to get behind them or power his way out of the zone through the middle to create breakways for himself. He can turn, pivot, and collect passes in motion extremely well. Since hes a smaller player, he relied on finding those gaps in coverage to create high-danger scoring chances as the top level defenders can match pace with him off the rush and force him to shoot from further out or knock pucks off his stick if he pushes in too close. His motions in open ice are extremely dynamic and he can outstickhandle and out think goaltenders over and over. If I was in a shootout, he might be the first name I call. He isn’t a very physical player either though and often sweeps through his forechecks with mixed successes. He’s looking to knock pucks loose and create individual chances for himself. It’s rush offense and quick feet. He’s an intriguing player due to his efficient possession and goal scoring instincts.

It makes me laugh sometimes how often Jagger finds himself on breakaways. I shouldn’t say “finds himself” I suppose, but instead “hunts for them”. He’s often trying to spring out of the zone early, put defenders wide off the rush early and cut to the inside to blow past, or simply choosing aggressive skating routes which find himself with an edge past unsuspecting defenders. Once he’s on a breakaway, I’m not sure there’s anyone in any league which can match his decking laterally and fakes in tight. He might have a bit of a harder time at the next levels getting that space off the rush, but he’s going to still be lights out if you give him the chance.

Look no further to find this year’s top offensive producer at the CSSHL U15 Prep Championships. He’s an incredibly fun player to watch since he loves to test defenders off the rush and breakout of the defensive zone. He gets so many breakaways throughout the season since he loves to cut into the middle of the ice and either grab pucks early or dare his teammates to find him behind coverage. When he is in those moments there aren’t many players in this year’s draft class who are on his level as far as reading the goaltender’s movements, and adapting with stickhandling in tight. He will often think deke instead of trying to find the perfect shot placement. He’s listed on the CSSHL website at 5’6 and 127 lbs but he certainly plays bigger than that with confidence. Due to his size and wingspan, he often needs that extra bit of space on the exterior or off the rush in order to use his quick reflexes and scoring instincts as he can get either pushed off routes or closed off by bigger defenders with good stick defense. If you lose track of him or undervalue his presence on the ice, he makes you pay very quickly.

It was tough sledding at times for Prospects Red but they certainly had a number of standout players too. Jagger kept driving the puck deeper and pushed to the outside as well. It let him set up these inside-out moves off the rush when he was trying to get the defender to bait on a poke so he could accelerate past him. I loved little moments like when he went into the boards on retrievals where he’d shoulder check, and make multiple fakes before grabbing the puck and attempting to escape. He was also very active defensively by being positionally aware and looking to spring himself into offense right away. He was able to create quite a bit of rush/breakaway chances in each game due to his speed.
