I really liked the play of Jake Burmis throughout the USHL Fall Classic, I thought he was one of the standout players on this team and his offensive capabilities from the back end were impressive. His vision and passing ability coming out of the back were great, he was able to spring an attack with a precise stretch pass from his own end with ease. His passes were risky and did not always reach their intended target, but he was quick to pressure the puck and win possession back for his team to make up for his mistake. Zone exits were simple for him given the passing ability he displayed, but his skating was another strength that made it easy for him to get his team out of the defensive zone. He accelerated quickly, reached high speeds, and was extremely agile and difficult for defenders to prevent from slipping by. He was able to stickhandle his way through traffic at those high speeds when he wanted to, or he used the outside lanes to capitalize on the head of steam he had built up and then angle passes towards the slot. He was a dynamic playmaker from the backend who wanted to be involved in the offense whenever he could, and he pounced on opportunities by finding pockets of space to creep into and get quick shots away. His reactions in his own end led to some timely interventions, winning races to loose pucks and steering play away from the front of the net before the opposition could provide a finishing touch.
