Projectable Skills: Defensive detail, Skating stride, Hard Wrist Shot Development Opportunities: Offensive Creativity
If you are looking for one of the most detailed defensive-minded defenders in the draft, you’ve found him. Jordan has a strong C-cut, gets tremendous power in his first stride, turns, and in the pure length of his stride. I’ve seen him chase down forwards on a backcheck, push on his inside edges while defending the rush with consistent positioning and incredibly strong gap control. If you attack him too fast, it's way too easy for him to time his first swipe or poke and make you fumble your zone entries. He spends more of his time at the U15 level being the safe and defensive option on his pair which sometimes limits his chances to join the rush backdoor, get comfortable in transitioning the puck on his own, or just creativity trying different things offensively. He’s got great weight transfers in his shot release and can also shoot off his front foot while in stride. While he isn’t trying to pick the corners, you’ll consistently see him choose shots when there is traffic, a teammate’s stick in the lane, or by sneaking in as far as he feels comfortable. Defensively, he understands skating pathways, board battles, pinning opponents, leveraging his position, and how to use a defense partner properly to evade pressure. The details of his game are already outstanding and could be a good top-pair partner for an offensive-minded partner. I think he has more of his potential to explore offensively too.

2023 Canada Winter Games Report: Team BC (12) vs Team Nova Scotia (2)
While each of Team BCs defensemen were highly effective in recovering pucks and efficiently breaking their team out of the defensive zone, I felt that Jordan Martin did so at another level of efficiency and adaptability. Under the chaotic pressure that Nova Scotia was able to apply, Martin used his incredible upper body strength, reach and flexibility to maintain possession without conceding too much space and while remaining aware of his downstream options. Though he didn’t often show the need to carry the puck himself, he was able to make a number.
