With the use of quick footwork, Walsh became most effective during retrievals of loose pucks by winning races against his opponents or using his reach to scoop up pucks before his opponents. I thought he had good moments as a defender where he was able to use his length to his advantage by cutting off plays along the boards with a quick defensive stick or executing timely pinches to keep pucks in at the blue line.
