Logan Cooley is one of the most electrifying players the U17 United States National Team has to offer. Cooley has impressed at the U17 level so much he even got a game at the U18 level for the National Team. So, what makes Logan Cooley so good? Cooley has great speed along with strong edges and is able to separate himself from opponents in just a few steps, the acceleration he has is dangerous for other teams as he is very hard to contain. So many players with great speed often lack the hands but Cooley does not. He has hands to match his footspeed which allows him to attack off the rush and back defenders off. This of course creates lots of space for both himself and his teammates allowing him to generate high danger chances for his team. In the offensive zone Cooley is a great playmaker, he can connect on cross-seam passes and send passes through sticks and bodies with a high degree of effectiveness. Cooley’s shot is also dangerous, it lacks power but still has solid accuracy. In his own end Cooley isn’t a major impact player, as he isn’t strong in puck battles as he weighs only 154 lbs. The effort is there defensively, he just needs to mature a little bit more to improve his defensive game. Cooley has definite top 6 upside in the NHL, it just may take him a little while to get there. He has committed to the University of Notre Dame for the 2022/2023 season.
