The OMHA Championships was some of the best hockey I've seen from Logan all year. The main element was that I found he had an extra gear and was playing with much more pace than I've come to expect. He was flying around the ice, gaining separation with his feet, and dictating the flow of the game. He attacked defenders with plenty of speed and flew by them, which I've seen this year, but not quite in this volume and success from Logan, so seeing that progression was excellent. Within the offensive zone, he was his tactician self, controlling offensive zone sequences for long stretches and moving pucks to teammates in scoring positions. All weekend long, Hawery was controlling the puck on the outside of the offensive zone, showing patience and puck skills to dodge defenders and buy time for passing lanes to open. Through this dominance in the offensive zone, Hawery created many scoring chances, set up so many plays, and was one of the critical playmakers on the Colts. I've watched lots of the Colts this season and have had mixed thoughts on Logan, but seeing him play his best hockey at this stage of the season is a terrific sign that he's progressing in the right direction.

Logan is one the smartest skaters in this 2008 Ontario group. Most offensive zone entries are controlled and have a clear purpose. It’s all the not-so sexy traits where Hawery dominates. He can create down low and keep the cycle alive. He’s a dominant puck protector, and can avoid a check, or shield off defenders so well while maintaining full puck control. He’s always finding soft ice in the ozone where he can receive the puck and make a subsequent dangerous play. Logan finished with a goal and an assist in the two-game set but had a plethora of nice offensive looks that didn’t connect. Especially in game two.

Such an important and impressive performance from Hawery after being a player I’ve rarely noted when seeing him. There were some really impressive moments of skill before passing pucks to open linemates on the rush. The instincts and work rate were bound to pay off at some point, and in the second period it did. Canada White doesn’t get the initial lead without him. After allowing a major penalty kill, Hawery was a key cog in the play, getting the puck off the boards in the defensive zone, and immediately challenging Cameron Chartrand for a loose puck before setting up J-C Lemieux for the first goal of the game. There was lots of talk about Lemieux from the broadcast booth, but Hawery was the one who made that happen in multiple zones, breaking open what was a tight, close matchup.

I thought Hawery was one of the players who had the most jump throughout the whole contest and it paid dividends for him and his linemates. Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Logan did an excellent job of attacking with speed down the wing to make smooth zone entries. When in the OZ, he could prolong possession in a multitude of ways, whether establishing a cycle or working with the puck along the perimeter looking for space to open up for an option. One instance, he got the puck in the neutral zone with speed and quickly accelerated past a D who was caught off guard before sending a centering pass netfront for a scoring chance.
