One of the better two-way forwards at the tournament, Logan Stuart’s attention to detail on the defensive side of the game was excellent and he was able to consistently make plays to break up attacking chances. He read the play extremely well and was quick to get in a position to make a play, winning the puck, and working to move his team up the ice after gaining possession. He protected the puck well and was able to allow plays to develop using good lateral movement to gain the center lane and open up the ice for himself. His IQ was on display offensively as well as he constantly put himself in areas to receive the puck and get a dangerous scoring chance in tight. He showed great instincts and good ability in tight to earn chances and test the defense, and he was a key playmaker for Little Caesars as well.

Logan Stuart is one of our most highly rated American forwards and he flashed some of his ability as to why he is regarded as such. As a puck carrier he is very gifted as a smooth skater and skillful puck carrier, he does very well to make sharp cuts and changes in direction that leave defenders in his wake and open up an avenue for himself to move forward with the puck. His separation speed was on display and he did well to create space for himself to get shots away from the slot. A smooth player in transition and a two-way presence, Stuart was a standout player for Little Caesars.

Tied for the tournament points lead, Logan Stuart showed exactly why he has been a key member of the Jr. Kings all season. He reads the ice very well and makes intelligent decisions with the puck on his stick and is able to pick out passing lanes and thread a pass through them to the tape. He was one of the hardest working players for his team, leading by example, and he was able to succeed in any situation he was thrown into. He showed great poise with the puck and was able to identify the best play to make at the time and often connected on them.

Seeing plenty of icetime with the aforementioned Sparks, Logan Stuart was equally as effective on the offensive side of the puck after finishing with four goals and three assists in five games. A good skater who was able to gather speed quickly and drive up ice right to the heart of the defense and penetrate them to get high quality scoring chances from right in the slot. He is agile and was able to shift his body and delicately glide by the opposition to create the space for him to work within. With quick hands and sharp edges he was able to possess the puck with ease and control the offensive zone and establish himself as the playmaking threat within the zone. An unselfish player, he found himself in scoring positions and one moment that stood out was on a two on one where he had a great opportunity to shoot but Sparks had a slightly better shooting angle and he slid it across to him to finish the play off. He is a high effort player on both sides of the puck and was constantly giving 100% and imposing his will on the game whenever he had the puck on his stick. Stuart had an awesome weekend and was the player of the tournament for the Blue Division for me.

Stuart is a player marked by his straight line speed at this level. In both the game against Canada Red and this game against Finland, he can be found receiving passes cleanly in stride and charging up the boards, forcing opponents to work their tails off to slow him down. In this one, especially early on, Stuart found himself a key offensive transporter and off-puck turnover generator. There were flashes of strong agility, especially on the power play as Stuard carved through Finnish defenses on offensive entries, and crossing them up getting off the boards with a quick cut to create a new lane to work with. His touch passing in the offensive zone was strong at times, keeping things simple and effective, highlighted by a quick slot pass off the boards down low that nearly put the US up 5-3. He was a needle mover in a game that didn’t have a ton of needle movement, showcasing projectable skating traits that should carry forward well as the rest of his game rounds out.

Stuart was another player who found his legs more and more as the game went on, challenging Canadian puck carriers more and more with increasing intensity, but his on-puck resilience and net drives were what really stuck out. He never seemed to back down with players pressuring him, exemplified by his primary assist on Dayne Beuker’s goal to put the USA within one in the 2nd period. A quick shoulder check, a quick half turn and a quick pass in front put the puck in the net, and Stuart seemed to be one of the more assertive Americans on the ice from that point onwards. Dropping a shoulder, earning body positioning and forechecking well, he was a key part of the US resurgence that unfortunately fell short by the end of the game, but showed good promise for his play in this tournament. A battler who pushed himself into the offensive zone on many occasions, protecting the puck well and putting defenders on their heels, Stuart became one to watch here in Sarnia.

Stuart announced himself earlier in this game than the last one, turning things on and ensuring that he made his impact on this important contest. He scored a great goal early in the second frame as he entered the zone as a trailing man and wasted no time settling the puck and slotted it past the netminder. His puck protection and smart decision making by not forcing plays or looking to overcomplicate things helped add some stability to the offense, but he added in some slick puck handling in the process to keep the puck out of reach from the defense. He skates with the puck very well, his lateral movement opens up the center of the ice very well and creates pockets of space for his linemates. Defensively he was involved again, closing down players and using his stick well to eliminate the passing lanes before stepping up and engaging physically. I am a very big fan of Stuart’s game and he has been a huge addition to this Little Caesars team.

The first half of the game wasn’t his best 26 minutes, but the second half saw Logan Stuart get more involved and start making an impact on the game. His defensive game is always something that stands out when he plays, even when the offense isn’t clicking he is working back and making timely stick lifts, getting his body back in the passing lanes, and engaging physically to disrupt the attacker’s flow. He started getting into the game by playing physically in the offensive zone and winning puck battles in the corners, coming away with the puck, and extending offensive zone time. He started showing some flash and his work with the added space that the man advantage provided was very good. He handled the puck well and with some smooth skating and agility he was able to unlock the center lane and get himself a great scoring opportunity, showing the kind of offense he can bring. This game was about him playing responsibly at both ends of the ice and he delivered.

I thought Logan Stuart could be awarded the hardest working forward in this game. He was very quick to the corners, protected the puck well down low even if he got driven off the route, and was a difference maker off puck both on the PK and 5on5. He did end up taking a penalty when covering the rush defense on the right side but other than that I thought his effort, pacing, and skills were on display. He forces defenders to take chances on his routes and try to get shoulder to shoulder checks on him before he gains a step on you.

Stuart was another forward who created plenty of scoring chances for the American's. Many of these chances came from Stuart being up ice, receiving stretch passes and creating scoring chances off these sequences. Whether he was receiving the pass and driving the net or cleverly spotting an open passing lane to slip a puck through, Logan created many chances off the rush. Stuart had some impressive flashes of small-area skill, maneuvering in and out of pressure with slick puck moves and lateral skating moves. If it weren't for Hurlbert's sensational goal, Logan would have had the highlight of the night. In the dying minutes of the first period, Logan took the puck up the wall, turned and cut to the middle, splitting through three defenders to the net, and then tucked it five-hole. The sequence was a great individual effort, playing through many defenders' stick checks en route to the net, making for a highlight-reel goal. As I've said, a small group of American forwards drove most of the play, and Logan was definitely in that exclusive group of players.

I first noticed Stuart mainly for his skating ability. I found him to be a powerful skater who successfully closed down opponents on the forecheck and caught up to players as a backchecker. On the attack, Logan used his speed to fly through the neutral zone and controlled the puck over the offensive blue line. Upon entering the offensive zone, he was crafty and deceptive and could evade defenders and push play into the dangerous parts of the ice. Mainly through his passing, Logan constantly scanned for open linemates and frequently hit them for grade-A opportunities. He was one of the forwards on Team Red who controlled a lot of the play, especially along the perimeter of the offensive zone, being challenging to dispossess for Navy given his crafty puck skills.

I don’t think everything quite came together for Logan in this game but that effect and potential was still there. His skating stride comes across very naturally. He builds power with a longer stride and has the balance to reach for pucks slightly too far or cut back quickly to avoid a bodycheck or a huge knee on knee in the neutral zone. He covers so much ground offensively and makes his pass reception radius even greater. I think the most effective parts of his game today came in effort along the boards and keeping pace. He scored a nice tactical goal in the shootout by faking a deke a few times before shooting five hole.

He had energy all throughout the game. Whether that was from lead rush attempts, causing turnovers, feeding passes into the slot, or blocking passing lanes, it didn’t matter. His goal off the rush was very smart too as he slipped it five hole with an unexpected cadence. I thought he kind of personified the heart of the team throughout this game and I thought he was the kind of player who you could throw out on any line and it would work.
