Luke Evangelista was one of the more interesting players selected in the 2020 NHL Draft. Evangelista doesn’t really have any particular area in his game where he stands out, rather he is good in many aspects of the game. Regarding his skating, he isn’t a super fast player, but not a poor skater by any means either. Evangelista is smart offensively player but doesn’t have an elite skillset to execute plays that some of the more dynamic offensive players in his draft class have. The most impressive part of Evangelista’s game is his defensive ability. He plays a safe defensive game, supports his D-men down low and can break up passes better than most. Once Evangelista intercepts a puck, he is able to transition to offense very quickly. He likely slots in as more of a support player at the NHL level, similar to that of a Zach Hyman but with a bit more skill.
