Team Red’s best chance of staying in this game early on often seemed to be in the hands of Mason Moe. The tall forward uses his stick well to remove possession from his opponents and create his own opportunities from such plays. He isn’t al that explosive, but he is able to move ahead of the play, rather than always reacting. If he were able to improve his skating to a more quick and powerful stride I think he’d find himself quickly in a different peer group.

Using his upper body strength to leverage opponents off of the puck as well as protect it for himself, Mason Moe had the ability to make an impact any time he was on the ice. He closes the gap on his opponents quickly, leaving them with limited time and space to make a decision. In some cases, I thought he could’ve moved his feet a bit more with possession in order to give himself more options. He seemed to be able to find open ice relatively well which gave him the opportunity to release a very powerful wrist shot. When getting himself set in shooting position, Moe wasted no time cocking his forearm forward and blasting a shot quickly and with significant leverage. He uses a great reach to protect possession to the outside of his body, yet after using this sort of a tactic around the perimeter, seemed to identify opportunities to cut into the middle of the ice quite quickly.
