Michael La Starza is one of the best 04 born players in the USHL this season (excluding USNTDP players). Playing for the Waterloo Blackhawks, at the time of writing this La Starza has scored 6 goals and chipped in 7 assists for 13 points in 24 games played. La Starza is a good skater who has solid speed and agility. La Starza can maneuver his way around the offensive zone with the puck on his stick as its difficult for defenders to strip it off him without taking a penalty. He has a quick and powerful shot that is arguably the highlight of his game. Next season when La Starza is put into a role of higher responsibility he will really be able to show off his shooting abilities. He hasn’t demonstrated elite level playmaking by any means, but the building blocks are there as he has quick hands along with good awareness. La Starza needs to improve his defensive game to improve his value as a whole as he can be a bit careless leaving his man open. Physically, La Starza is fairly strong, but can be knocked off the puck too easily at times. He could also benefit from going to the dirty areas of the ice a bit more. Eligible for the 2022 NHL Draft, La Starza likely goes late-to-mid 2nd/3rd round and could develop nicely into a potential 20 goal scorer at the NHL level. La Starza has committed to Boston University for the 2022-23 season.
