It was a relatively quiet game for Rossetto despite scoring the overtime winner on a dandy goal. Early in extra time Rossetto picked up a pass in the neutral zone, blew by a defender with speed and went backhand-forehand through the five hole to score. Besides that, Rossetto had a few highly skilled puck distribution plays in the offensive zone, including some skilled small area plays to create space for himself, but these were sparce and inconsistent throughout the contest. Despite this, I expect him to be an important part of the Penguins attack moving forward.

Rossetto had another incredible showing today. When he gets a full head of steam through the neutral zone, he can do some special things with the puck. Today he scored the first goal of the 3rd to give Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead (at the time). He diced through 4 opponents before walking in and beating the Mount goaltender under the bar. Plays like that where Rossetto takes over games are why he is so dynamic, and a treat to watch.

Nikolas was easily the best forward for either team today. He has so many weapons he can use in the offensive zone that many players at this age struggle to predict, and subsequently defend him. As a puck carrier, he’s rugged and can play through contact on the wall while maintaining control. When he and his teammates are set up in the offensive zone, Rossetto’s ability to make quick 1-touch passes and spread the defenders out is incredible. Playing quick just allows you to afford teammates more time with the puck in favourable areas, and that was the calling card for Rossetto and his teammates in this blowout win.
