The lightweight but elusive Noah Larochelle (89) was one of the most difficult to catch players at the QMJHL Cup. While he definitely needs to add some strength, I think he gives high attention to detail when extracting the puck from his opponents, and when carrying it to set up a play himself. He could end up being a player who fills a supplementary offensive role in the middle of the Victoriaville lineup one day. Many people would probably tell you that, considering his size, this was a perfect place for Larochelle to be drafted. I think it would’ve been entirely acceptable for him to be drafted at least a round earlier. The fifth round seemed to be a time when teams’ lists really started to diverge and the Tigres seemed to stay in the lane targeting upside. He’s extremely quick and uses his edges well to stay elusive in traffic. He possesses very high technical puck skill. I see him as a player with Brady Burns type upside.

QMJHL Cup - Blaineville Boisbrand
The shifty and elusive skill of Noah Larochelle was some of the best I’ve seen at the tournament. Late in the second period Larochelle grabbed my attention with an impressive sequence of puck skill and edgework in the offensive zone. He was able to efficiently extract the puck from the legs of his opponent along the wall before quickly navigating to the back of his opponents net, utilizing strong inside edges to stay open to the inside of the ice and seek an opportunity. He showed good agility and quick feet to fight around obstacles before ultimately surrendering the puck to Jack McMinn along the opposite wall that he began. His puck skill and evasiveness was at the forefront of his performance in this game, as there was more than one occasion where he was able to efficiently recover the puck and use that intricate edgework and complimentary puck handling to gain the offensive zone and create a primary scoring opportunity. Although the timing of his distribution was a bit more delayed than I’d like to see, it was good to see him working to set up his teammates in transition. For the most part he was effective in doing so but I think that little extra pace in decision making and execution will be what makes that secondary element of his game sustainable.
