Stewart is my kind of player and despite some skating warts I remain a big believer in his ability to track to higher levels. He is the kind of player who will never be outworked. He is relentless in pursuit, dogged on the backcheck, takes care of the little things without the puck, and is a vocal leader on the ice. You can’t teach the kind of on-ice character that oozes from him, and his detail-oriented approach means that he is a positive presence on every shift in all three zones. He doesn’t need to hit the scoresheet to be effective but he’s also no stranger to the offensive side of the ledger. He’s collected points in every game so far to start the year and has a well rounded and situational approach to the offensive zone. He excels at taking what the defence gives him and uses his teammates effectively. Most of the concerns with Stewart lie in his hunched over and inefficient stride but he’s shown an ability to still be effective at this level as he works to improve that area.

I really enjoy the way he plays against pressure as he closes gaps, finds inside spots, and isn’t afraid to get physical too to win space. Nolan doesn’t come with the longest skating stride so at times he might find himself behind the play as it changes pace and directions. He is a high effort player though, keeps his feet moving, and pushes through layers to be as dangerous as possible. He causes turnovers by pouncing on passing lanes and certainly didn’t look behind the pace at U17 most of the time. I enjoy the way he consistently opens his shooting posture in smart moments and is as dangerous with the puck as he is without. I think his best weapon comes from the accuracy of his shot. He’s one of those players who thinks about shooting angles and can elevate with consistency. That aspect of his game reminds me of Zach Moore of the Saskatoon Contacts.
