Mid Fairfield’s strong season was the result of many players doing their job and operating as a singular unit, and Oskar Drabczynski was their leader on the blue line and played a big role in their success. A strong puck carrier with pretty good hands and the ability to quickly move the puck out of his zone is always of interest to teams, and Drabczynski can provide those traits. He defends well in one on one situations, using his skating ability to stay close to his man and keep him at bay with good stick checking ability, as well as getting physical when someone tries to slip by him along the outside. He reads plays in transition well and is quick to step in and get in the way to break up the offense and get his team back on the front foot and counter attack.

It took a while for Drabczynski to fully immerse himself in this contest (the same can be said for a majority of his team) but once he did there’s no denying that he was one of the games more effective players. He was playing in all situations for the Rangers, whether it was running the first unit powerplay, killing penalties or logging big minutes at even strength. He was really tough to beat in one on one situations, both off the rush and in the defensive zone, thanks to his impressive skating ability and long reach. I liked how often he was stepping at his own blueline and forcing dump ins. He was also neutralizing the Bishop Kearney cycle game whenever he was on the ice by reading the play around him and stepping up to break up a pass attempt or body check a puck carrier along the boards. Many of his defensive stops also lead to transition opportunities the other way for the Rangers. He was making quick plays with the puck on his stick as well, which allowed the Rangers transition game to flourish whenever he was on the ice.
