Like Morrow, Tanner Henricks is a physical presence for the Sabres on the blue line and asserts himself in each game. Henricks is capable of throwing big hits and uses his solid positioning to enable him to close down on players and run them into the boards. He times his poke checks well and is good at disrupting the play before engaging physically. He is a strong skater and uses his long powerful strides to occasionally venture up the ice and join the rush. He has pretty good hands and makes a nice outlet pass to get the offense started. While his bread and butter is his defensive play he does show an ability to contribute on offense as he notched 20 assists last year with the 14U’s.

A textbook defender, Hendricks is effective both at Right Defense and Left. Keeps his head up during the play and does a nice job eyeing the opposition’s rush to break up the offense. He’s a stay at home defender who knows the right times to pinch or play back. Hendricks has good hands on the puck with a nice breakout pass. His best skating asset is his backwards stride. He can easily get back on defense with said stride. Hendricks isn’t a flyer but he gets to his spot and very rarely plays out of position. On a stacked hockey club like Shattuck-St. Mary’s, Hendricks has taken a lesser role but shows to be a calming influence in their bottom pairings. Has a higher ceiling at junior level.

A steady defensive presence for the Greyhounds, Henricks looked solid in this one and made some important and timely pinches to keep the puck in the offensive end and prolong the siege to wear down the other team. He showed off a good passing range and his ability to hit the mark from distance helped to alleviate pressure multiple times and quickly start the attack the other way.
