This iteration of my viewings on Trevor Cook was likely the best I’ve seen him play, earning himself a spot in our rankings as a result. He was consistently able to pull pucks wide on defenders, make steep moves driving the middle lane, jostling for space as he attacked with speed and skill and made some decent plays from the middle of the ice whilst enduring some contact. The power to his first few steps really made him a handful to contain and check, from a stand-still, or slower pace, he was able to quickly explode away from pressure and create some escape velocity in short order to get moving up ice. His work on the forecheck continuing to use his speed away from the puck was also impressive. He consistently followed up on dump-ins, took smart routes and angled off defenders’ pass options, intercepting passes and getting involved physically on a few occasions. He was able to cycle pucks back high after forcing these turnovers, getting his team some offensive zone possession time based on effort alone. His effort around the goalmouth gave him some looks when battling for loose pucks, swatting at rebounds, and generating some chances in close as well.
