I was expecting really high-end things from William in this tournament and I thought he essentially met my expectations. His skating stride length is so long and he garners so much fluidity through his pivots and turns. It allows him to transition play through the NZ with ease sometimes against this competition. His transitions from the OZ line to defending the rush was phenomenal too. He just covers so much ground with his sweeping strides and crossovers. When matched up against other top competitors, it was nice to see him keep pace with the likes of Beuker on the backcheck too. He took away a breakaway chance. In the final, he was using fakes before making outlet passes, completing little touch passes, and being aggressive on his defensive pokes. There were a couple smaller moments in the defensive zone where I would have liked to see a bit more defensive urgency but that’s ok. Overall, his stride, pivots, mohawk pushes in motion, and other skating elements are showing at a very high level for me.

He really has high-end skating motions. There were moments in the tournament where he skated end to end and circled around the net looking for an attacking lane or a passing window. He gets powerful pushes into the interior off the rush and uses that long, lanky stride to pivot or curl away from pressure if need be. He builds power exiting out of his pivots immediately to crossovers too. His passes are crisp side to side and seems to navigate offensive situations fairly well. I had submitted our top-25 rankings already before the tournament started and he was one of the only changes I opted to make after I watched two games. He’s just quite simply a higher-end potential player and it will take multiple viewings to pinpoint the exact spot he should land. He ended up second in team scoring throughout the weekend.
