Projectable Skills - Powerful, Fluid Stride, Slapshot, Size Development Opportunities - Comfortability off the rush, Gap Control, Maintaining Position
I’ve seen many sides of William over the span of watches. In the summer tournaments, you could easily see how the fluidity of his stride afforded him opportunities that other players did not have. His skating stride on it’s own is incredible. He dips low in his turns, anticipates the play developing, and leaves himself room to generate power from the length of his strides and the combination of pushes and crossovers, especially while moving backwards. Usually that simply meant when he collected pucks, he would use his reach and lateral pushes to make simple outlet passes. He also has terrific slapshot power which I wished he’d put himself in more positions to use. The biggest thing that William can do to unlock his potential is not be afraid to get in the mix more. That means making his first stick defense at his own blueline, using his physicality more in all situations, not letting guys slip past him in coverage, and setting the tempo more often for the offensive flow. He’s got such talented individual elements in his toolkit that whatever you can get him to do to become a less passive player, the more he’s going to emerge as a terrific, terrific two-way defender.

Prime Hockey Expo - August 17, 2021
I think William might be one of the most pure skaters from this tournament. His legs are long and he dips low with a great knee bend. He gets fantastic power and length when accelerating on his back crossovers. He showed himself to be a very good rush defender by anticipating passes and stepping to those lanes. In the d-zone, he actively shoulder checks when retrieving pucks and curls around the net quickly. More than often, he chooses simple outlet passes consistently to the wings rather than higher risk passes to the middle. Defensively, he is great at making sure he is between the puck carrier and passing lanes but sometimes passes go through his body and his reaction time isn’t high enough. When quarterbacking the PP, he did fine at controlling passing and facilitating them to the wings but I would have liked to see more overall. I think William plays a very efficient transition game and a simple game strategically which is facilitated through his high-end mobility. I didn’t see a lot of creativity or flair with him but certainly a player you can build that with.

Prime Hockey Expo: Team Gold vs. Team Purple - July 22, 2021
For purple, William McIsaac was showing his ability to explode laterally with a smoothness while defending a 2 on 1. He can do a bit of everything but overall he was still just a low-event type player. He can get shots through, show decent gap control off the rush, and find easy outlet passes but he isn’t trying to be the flashiest player on the ice by any means.
