I thought Brown was the most impressive forward on the Kings in this one. His ability to handle pucks in motion all while in his 6’1 frame was quite remarkable. He’s fluid on his feet, can shift directions easily without losing momentum or control of the puck. These physical abilities gave him the tools to fend off pressure incredibly well, escape checks, and keep play flowing in the offensive zone to lead to scoring chances. He had one highlight reel goal, fooling the goaltender with a stutter step to open up the short-side, but for me the highlight was his passing. He connected on pass after pass from the outside of the zone to teammates on the interior, adding tons of value as a playmaker. He’s caught my eye in almost every viewing of the Kings this year, and one that I am really intrigued to see how he looks by season’s end as I think there is tons of potential here.

I noted Brown for how he consistently used his frame to shield the puck and win space, leaning into his size to protect pucks along the wall and down low. He was tough to knock off possession, extending plays with his reach and was being assertive whenever he had the puck, leaning on his physical tools to his advantage and adding value. Whether driving wide off the rush, working below the goal line, or operating around the net, Brown’s ability to use his body effectively was a key part of his success in this one. He had some flashes of attacking the net, including a few goals in my views, but I mainly was impressed for how he chained this puck protection off the cycle game into smart passes from down low / off the wall to teammates in scoring positions.

Brody Brown made his presence felt with some strong 200-foot commitment, driven by some solid skating and deft plays in tight to opposition. He was of note coming back through the middle of the ice on the back check with speed, getting a stick on the puck, and turning play back up ice the other way in short order. In defensive transitions he showed some good positioning in credit to some good lateral movements while moving backwards, along with strong hockey sense and the ability to read, and clog passing lanes across the ice. When the puck was on his stick he made some good passes around the ice across all 3 zones. Hitting his teammates with accurate and well-timed passes, he was an asset while transitioning up ice and could be trusted to string together a series of quick passes to help drive play.
