Martin was the top defender for the Colts, providing value all over the ice. He won pucks in his defensive zone, found passing options, and just executed a lot of plays that resulted in controlled zone exits. Hayden could easily beat the first layer of forecheckers, dodging them with lateral skating moves, giving him time and space to make a play with control. If there was open ice in front of him, he didn't hesitate to activate and carry pucks through the neutral zone, sparking one of the Colts' goals through this confidence to push play forward and try to spark offence. Martin wasn't someone I identified in the first half of the year, but with every viewing of the Colts in the second half of the season, he's continued to impress, earning himself a spot on my latest rankings.
