Lalonde is a very confident defender who often commands the puck going back for retrievals and looks for creative ways to get pucks out of danger. He was often cool calm and collected on retrievals in the defensive zone, demonstrating strong scanning habits in order to assess his options and make quick plays under pressure. He had some strong moments of puck-carrying in transition as well, garnering power through hiss crossovers to pick up speed quickly and separate from defenders in the neutral zone. There were times on retrievals where he tried to rely too much on his skating by wheeling around the net but not being able to separate which ultimately lead to botched exits.
