Debruyn broke up plenty of plays in this game, adding defensive value in many different ways. Whether in the corners or defending rushes, Jesse aggressively got in attackers' space, took away their options, and engaged physically if necessary. I thought he used his mobility well in these scenarios, maintaining gaps and staying square with attackers as they shifted, not giving them any ice to skate into. Debruyn has stood out in most games when I've watched HPL and is someone I want to keep a close eye on over the OHL Cup.

There were a few key elements to my notes in Debruyn's game; the first was I thought he did a solid job at applying pressure in the neutral zone, taking away attackers' time and space. Jesse was getting in their face and making transitions difficult, finding ways to disrupt plays just by being aggressive in his positioning. The second key element was his desire to walk the line, penetrate toward the slot, and get pucks on the net from prime shooting locations. Jesse scored a handful of goals in my viewings through his desire to walk in a few steps and blast shots in from medium range, showcasing an ability to generate offence from the blue line.
