EVENT 2024 Toronto Titans Early Bird
With Cabral being a newcomer to this DMF team I've seen plenty; my knowledge of him wasn't as extensive as some of his teammates, but it didn't take long for him to impress. There was a good mix of abilities and habits that I quickly uncovered in his game. With the puck, he had the handling to evade pressure, using smart and tactical touches to advance the play to the dangerous areas. He had some moments of attacking and penetrating for scoring chances, but Cabral mainly made his mark as a passer, constantly threading pucks to the slot or across the offensive zone to teammates in scoring positions. While there was a well-rounded offensive arsenal, I thought his shot was a notable high-end ability in his toolkit. His ability to quickly drag and release to unleash a powerful shot was quite impressive, and he scored a few goals showcasing this ability. Finally, I noted him as a persistent forechecker, frequently applying pressure to opposing defenders, disrupting their breakout attempts, and winning pucks deep in the offensive zone. All in all, it was just a solid first impression from the DMF forward and one that put him on my radar for inclusion in future release of my OHL Draft rankings.

Lyndon had plenty of scoring chances in this one, where you could see the shooting power and quick release in his toolkit. Cabral was always a shooting threat, constantly looking to use these abilities to rip shots on goal, and had plenty of quality chances. He found the back of the net, with a swift catch and release, ripping short side blazing the puck past the goaltender. Cabral also added an assist, entering the zone with control and then dishing off to Lincoln Cumming, who converted.

Hands were the central theme of Cabral's game. There were just a few sequences where his skill jumped off the page, and he connected on a slick little toe drag or a deke to dodge a stick and access a dangerous part of the ice. I thought he leveraged his hands well to make the first move around a defender and then smartly dish off to an open teammate rather than continuing to try and beat guys 1-on-1, registering one assist under this very theme. Lyndon found the back of the net as well, unleashing a powerplay shot from the wing of the umbrella, ripping one far-side past the netminder.

My notes on Cabral spoke to a player who was involved all over the ice. He was impactful at winning pucks in his defensive zone and finding ways to exit with control, showing patience under pressure to find a passing option. On the powerplay, he was a shooting threat, using his powerful drag and release to launch pucks on net with plenty of velocity. Lyndon found the back of the net, pouncing on a loose puck in the slot, firing it on the net and then following his shot up, capitalizing on his rebound.

Cabral had some really nice moments where his handling jumped off the page in this one. He connected on a few impressive toe drags, skirting sticks to create scoring chances and it all just cemented the high-end puck skills and confidence in his offensive arsenal. There were some nice passing moments, hitting teammates in the offensive zone, but the hands to create space for himself was the central theme of my notes. He scored one of the Fyler's goals, finishing a 2-on-1 pass net front.
