Not many players helped their draft stock the way Ouellet did throughout this tournament, demonstrating that he could thrive among the best in this draft class despite playing at the M17 level all season long. He’s quite the prolific scorer at the M17 level as well, but what impressed me most was his ability to adapt and play a more complimentary role when it was necessary. His best work came while he was using his speed to get in on the forecheck, consistently pressuring opposing defenders and even winning races to loose pucks below the goal line. His offensive instincts even shone through after generating touches for himself below the goal line, spotting open options with quick scans and connecting on passes to the low slot that ended up as high-danger chances. His on-puck ability was apparent from time to time as well, flashing speed as he attacked downhill and using subtle head fakes to freeze defenders and work his way around them to attack down low and create chances from in tight.
