Gosselin showed a great amount of projectability at this event, showcasing his size and speed combination that allowed him to thrive both off the rush and the cycle. When he picked up speed in the neutral zone, he was incredibly difficult to contain, often pushing back defenders and working wide around them before circling the net and either making a quick centering feed or attempting a wraparound on the far side. He was a highly effective player below the goal line in the offensive zone by winning a majority of his 50/50 battles and disrupting plays with his stick to earn himself puck touches. He was able to hold onto pucks around the perimeter thanks to his frame and puck protection ability, allowing him to buy time on his touches to spot passing options in the middle of the ice.

Gosselin is another one of those centerman who you can picture a clear pathway to him being an effective junior hockey player thanks to his above-average frame and detailed approach to the game. He may not light the scoreboard on fire, but in terms of defensive commitment and supporting his defenders down low in his own zone, there weren’t many draft-eligible prospects who I saw that were comparable. As a puck-carrier in transition I thought he was consistently taking smart and effective routes that allowed him to work into space, escape from back pressure and gain the offensive blueline. Some of his finer offensive moments came when he could catch a step on a defender and turn him around before making a hard dash to the net or taking the puck around the net and performing a wraparound shot.

Gosselin has quickly turned into a favorite of mine relative to this Québec forward glass. He’s one of the more physical developed kids at this stage of development, and he definitely knows it. With the puck he’s always looking to attack defenders head on, using deceptive acceleration and a quick change of gears to get a step on defenders, dip a shoulder and make a hard cut to the front of the net for a chance. He had some strong moments of playmaking off the rush as well, where he was able to either execute a cross-ice feed or circle the net and slip a pass to the low slot for a dangerous chance. Gosselin was one of the few forwards who could really operate off the cycle, using his frame to shield pucks effectively and utilize give and go’s to get himself shots off from the inside.

Gosselin plays a smart and responsible game as a centerman and was noticeable every time he stepped on the ice. He’s very positionally sound in all three zones, supporting his defensemen down low in the defensive zone and his wingers in the offensive zone. His off-puck movement in the offensive zone is advanced for his age as he jumps in and out of congested areas trying to make himself an available passing option for teammates. He’s able to generate good speed through his crossovers which makes him difficult to contain in the neutral zone. His top-end speed also allows him to beat defenders wide off the rush and cut to the net for a scoring chance. There were flashes of some really good playmaking ability, exhibiting the capacity to feather accurate passes through opponents while moving at top speed. He has a very projectable game for the M18 circuit and I’m excited to keep track of his development for the 2025 QMJHL Draft.

Gosselin was able to utilize his frame and impressive straight-line speed to be an effective player both on and off the puck. I thought some of his best work came along the boards in the offensive zone where he was consistently disrupting play and winning puck battles in order to extend cycle sequences. He had a really strong dash through the middle of the ice late in the game, carving through multiple defenders to gain the line before circling the net and just missing on the wraparound centering feed. He scored his teams 4th goal of the game driving to the front of the net, winning inside positioning on a defender and banging home a loose puck in the crease area.

Gosselin wasn’t able to find the scoresheet in this one, but what I’ve learned throughout the year is that he always finds a way to make a positive impact on a game and this contest was no different. He was consistently engaged in his own zone, providing support down low for his defenders on breakouts and asserting himself in board battles. Gosselin had a few strong sequences in transition as well, most notably when he was able to get a step in the neutral zone, dish to the flanks once he gained the offensive zone and attack the net looking for a return pass in tight. I also noted plenty of times where he executed smart and simple passes in the neutral zone that helped facilitate his teams transition game.

Gosselin’s straight-line speed and strong playmaking made him a factor throughout this game. As a puck carrier he displayed some deceptive acceleration to attack wide around defenders, gain a step and then make a hard cut to the net to generate a chance from in tight. He was also using his speed to pressure defenders with the puck whenever he could, often stripping them of the puck and either attacking downhill into space or executing cross-ice passes to teammates for high-danger chances.
