Spence was about the exact same player I expected going in. Highly projectable, physical, hard working and aggressive, it was a true Malcolm Spence game. He brought smarts and skill to the equation to move pucks in the right direction often. Laying the body right from the start with some great net drives fending off pressure and pulling pucks cross-crease, he absorbed pressure well and navigated himself through all three zones effectively. The pace of his game and intensity level leading into his physical interactions was a bit limited, and there were some questionable decisions in transition moving the puck, but he’s just so solid all around. Making passes off the boards, using his body and skill to shake off forecheckers to make plays in transition, Spence worked his tail off to earn what he got in both games. A fierce competitor, he wasn’t perfect, but he was solid in all three zones and landed on the scoresheet through the trademark determination and smarts that has gotten him to this point.
