EVENT 2026 OHL Draft Final Evaluation
Projection: Bottom Four Shut Down
Strengths: Defensive Engagement, Stick Work, Reach
Development Opportunities: Passing Decisions, Foot Speed
Rudyk has been a constant standout all year whenever I watch the North Stars. He offers tons of value on the defensive side of the puck, relying on his long reach to break up plays and disrupt transitions. Kaelen shows a consistent ambition to engage defensively, taking away time and space and shutting plays down with ease. That side of the game is what has kept him on my radar, as someone with his physical characteristics who can be a disruptor is someone I can easily see earning a role at the OHL level.
The big hurdle for me is getting more refined in his passing game. Rudyk is excellent at winning pucks back, but what happens right after can be a mixed bag. I’d like to see him play with more patience, get his head up, and scan for outlets, and be a more reliable puck mover out of the defensive zone. With quicker forecheckers closing him down at the next level, going through his progressions to spot exit passes with sharper precision will be key. The potential is there to develop into a quality defensive option on an OHL club.
