One of the most high-octane players eligible for the 2023 QMJHL draft, Anthony Flanagan has quick agile feet from a stop and is able to expand his stride at the optimal rate so that he attains maximum speed as efficiently as anyone. At a glance, it might seem that Flanagan is a purely offensive focused player, but the way that he earns pucks speaks to the contrary. His active assessment of the opposition helps him to force turnovers in the neutral zone, which are plays that he's particularly adept at capitalizing on. He is great at getting the puck settled and turning on the jets to gain the offensive zone. While he certainly has good puck skill, it's not uncommon for him to force himself into heavy traffic and congestion, an element that can be particularly frustrating considering his proven speed and skill. When he's able to punch through, or find space to the outside, he often applies high speed and drives fearlessly to the net where his strength and attention to detail come in handy. I think if he can embrace the defensive side of his game and practice some new offensive strategies, he'll have a very bright future in the Q, and perhaps beyond.

2023 Canada Winter Games Report: Team Quebec (7) vs Team New Brunswick (1)
Flanagan dominated off the rush, beating defenders for tons of offence. New Brunswick’s defence struggled to contain him, as with almost every zone entry Flanagan could make a power move to the outside, get a step, and then cut back into the middle for a chance. Anthony used a similar skill off-puck to win a lane to the net, getting the inside edge on a defender, where he was open for a pass and redirected it to the back of the net. In addition to his prowess off the rush, Anthony used his quick hands in many scenarios. Flanagan leveraged his puck skills to add value for Team Quebec, whether to deceive the defence to secure a zone exit, in tight around the net, or a quick drag off receiving a rebound for a shot.

2022 QUEBEC U16 DEVELOPMENT CAMP
Rugged forechecking and speedy transitions were at the core of Anthony Flanigans performance at the U16 camp. His seamless puck acquisitions were made possible by timing and positioning himself well on the breakout, skating into passes and accumulating speed in open ice. He was often able to optimize his teams breakout in this manner which helped his team to build sustainable offensive posessiosn. Additionally, he was able to force his opponents into turnover situations by being a massive pest on the forecheck, and utilizing his agility to block potential passing lanes.
