A huge part of his team’s offense the last two seasons, Blake Zielinski’s ability to impact games as a power forward with strong puck skills has been abundantly clear. His strength on the puck, vision to facilitate play, and ability to finish off chances from below the faceoff dot have made him extremely difficult to contain. He handles the puck very well and uses his core strength to fight through defenders and make plays happen with regularity. He’s aware that his blend of size and skill draws attention from the opposition and uses that well to find players in open space when he notices the defense cheating towards him a bit. I like his work on the forecheck as well, he gets in tight and rushes the opposition into making mistakes that his team can capitalize on. He has the ability to work well with just about any player he skates alongside with as he can play the game at pace and make quick decisions on the puck, but he’s also capable of slowing things down and possessing in a structured setup offense. He has a great shot and poses a threat from anywhere in the zone, but also sees the ice well and has a deft touch on his passes. He has a great set of skills that will be able to offer a team with some desirable versatility.
